Does THCa get you high?
THCa itself doesn’t get you high. It’s a non-psychoactive compound found in raw cannabis and hemp plants. Unlike THC Delta 9, which is what causes the “high” in marijuana, THCa has an extra carboxyl group that prevents it from binding strongly to the CB1 receptors in your brain, the ones responsible for euphoria or altered perception.
However, THCa can turn into THC under the right conditions. When you heat it—like by smoking, vaping, or cooking—it undergoes decarboxylation, losing that carboxyl group and becoming psychoactive THC. So, raw hemp flowers with high THCa won’t get you high if you eat it fresh, but light it up, and the resulting THC absolutely can.
